If I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me why I am working at a retail shop, I would probably be a very wealthy woman by now. I pondered this question as I surveyed the increasingly barren store last night. Why am I at Brownfield’s? I am glad you asked.
It isn’t because of the insane hours we keep during the season. It isn’t because of the many different hats I get to wear in any given day. It isn’t because of the thousands of shirts I fold or garments I price. It isn’t because of the myriad of diverse people who walk in the door. It isn’t because it is located in one of the most beautiful places in America. These are all factors, but they aren’t the real answer to the question.
The real answer is because I love it. I adore the customers who come in and share their vacation with us. I am humbled by the locals who faithfully support us. I thrive on the challenge of designing, choosing, and presenting products. I enjoy the endeavor of always seeking to improve our business. I get excited about creating an environment of excellence in our field. I appreciate the incredible men and women who have chosen to labor diligently at the store. I am impressed by the companies who provide us with superior merchandise. Above all, I love serving people, seeing them satisfied, and watching them come back over and over again with a smile on their face.
You see, we don’t just sell things. We give people tangible reminders of their special memories in one of the greatest places on earth – Estes Park. We desire to be a place where people are served, appreciated, recognized, and honored. As our 58th season quickly comes to a close, I am reminded of how proud I am to work at a place called Brownfield’s.
Thank you for supporting us over the years and blessing us with your business.
Remember “to do what you love and love what you do.”
And, wear those Estes Park shirts with pride…
